2004 Majesty Honoree

L.C. Dorsey, DSW
Political & Social Activist

Armed with God and the vision for a better way of life, L. C. Dorsey was born in the Mississippi Delta and received her early education in a series of one room schools on various plantations. To help provide for her family, Dorsey was forced to place education on the back burner and dropped out of high school. Growing up in the poorest region of the United States, Dr. Dorsey soon realized that without an education, her family could not prosper and was doomed to the poverty that surrounded them. So, she went back to school at the age of 31 to pursue her GED. Today, Dr. Dorsey holds a Doctorate of Social Work Degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C., and a Masters of Social Work Degree from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, N.Y.

Her fight against poverty and improving the human condition has led to presidential appointments with both the Carter and Clinton administrations. In addition to working with state agencies, coalitions and educational institutions, her work has taken her to Russia and South African as an advocate for Human Rights issues.
