2004 Majesty Honoree

Robert Smith, M.D.
Physician

For over forty years, Dr. Robert Smith has given to his community and state. His almost superhuman commitment to humanity has helped to open doors to an entire generation of African American physicians in Mississippi. His dedication to healthcare, civil and social rights has helped develop the concepts that led to the establishments of federally funded health centers throughout Mississippi and the nation. In addition, he has developed relationships with national and international institutions to increase the number of minority students in the healthcare profession.

His fight for economic equality, led to the acquisition of a television network by an African American majority investment group. As a result, WLBT-TV3 in Jackson, Mississippi became the first television station owned by African Americans in the country.

Dr. Smith has challenged minds, and healed bodies and souls with his passion and talent.
